EDPuzzle

Description of the Tool

EDPuzzle is designed as a unique way where a student and teacher can measure the ability of their learning and understanding within a class. This tool has a designation side for a student and a teacher. When a student logs in they will be able to look at the assignment lists that a teacher has generated. On the teachers end, it demonstrates where they can see how well student is responding to their assignments and tasks for the week as well as sharing videos that are beneficial to the student.

How to Use This Tool

To access this tool, you will want to view it at https://edpuzzle.com. Once you get to the site as a user you will want to click the sign up option. Once clicked, a pop up image appears demon-strating if you are a teacher or a student. From their you will identify which option you are. I will demonstrate the differences between a student and teacher portal. If you enter the teacher option it will give you an interactive tutorial on how to use the service. As soon as a teacher has signed up the webpage should ask to select the type of lesson subject and to enter your school name.

Once completed, the website will ask you to try and search for a video to share. I typed in ef-fective learning in the search bar. After, a list of videos will show up that best describe what you had searched.

Next, go ahead and pick a video that you would best like to add to your class page. I chose the 9 best scientific study tips video.

Once you have selected the video, the screen will then appear like such:

There are several different options to choose from when it comes to making edits on this video in order to get the best learning from your class. I will explain each of the tools that we can make on this video. The arrows in black on the image below allow you to trim the video to make it so you can have your students only watch what they need to see. To trim, drag the red symbols to the left or right.

The audio track gives you the option to record your own voice on the video and demonstrate what is being shown. This feature allows you to explain what the person is doing in the video or also translate the video in a different language so your students can understand. When it comes to re-cording you are able to pause during the process at anytime to listen to how you sound and also continue where you left off or record all over again. With this feature, you are only able to record the voiceover during the entire video. The red arrow is pointing to the voice recording option.

The next tool is audio notes. Audio notes allows you to add certain notes during the video that can explain which part of the video may be on the next quiz or also, which feature of the video is the most important. To add these we will need to select the audio notes feature which is denoted with the green arrow and click on the record option on the bottom that is in the purple arrow.

From then on you will be able to add your audio notes to certain parts within the video. You can also delete certain notes by clicking on them and then clicking on the red trashcan feature. The next feature that we have is adding a quiz, a question or a comment to our students. To add these you will want to click on the blue arrow to get to the section. Once the video is playing feel free to click on the application denoted with the yellow arrow when you are ready to add a question.

Once you click on the question mark symbol, three options will appear for which type of ques-tion you would like to add. The box is shown below with a list at the top in green that are described as follows from left to right; questions to get a response to, a true or false option that allows you to grade the knowledge students have at the time, and a comments box that denotes which option is important.

We are going to choose the option of adding a comment at this time to let our students know keep watching and that they are doing a great job. After we have added this comment we will click the save button that is highlighted in blue on the previous image. To save our lesson we will click the finish option in the upper right corner. A box will prompt you to add it to your class. I had created a name known as Alexis EDPuzzle.

Now that we have added our first lesson to this class, we will be reverted to the main page where it will show the list of assignment, members of the class, how many people have viewed the assignment we created and also the option to adding a due date. On the upper right corner where it explains to invite your students, if you click it you will be given a unique code to save, in order to give to your students to find your class.

As a student our screen will show as below and we will want to find our class by clicking the option that is denoted with the orange arrow. You should have been given a code to search for your class by your teacher.

The code to see my specific class is pebtijc. Once you have joined your class you will be able to see any assignment shows and begin to complete them. Since this is interactive, with any as-signment the teacher may have certain questions, comments or quizzes that are involved with the videos so pay extra attention.

This tool is beneficial to both a teacher and trainer. In a teaching viewpoint, when ever teaching a certain concept to students, we can search for the video and create notations an quizzes to ensure students have viewed and understand a concept. In a training aspect, we can search for videos that can teach a person how to help out their team or introducing interactive videos by asking questions through making sure they understand certain guidelines.
